One example of getting wallet to sync (as of Sept 2017)

#1

I had posted this in sprouts’ bitcointalk ANN. Reposting it here with the latest node list from Sept 9, 2017.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1798901.msg19720939#msg19720939

Here’s what got the sprouts wallet working for me on a win7 machine.

About a month ago I found a zip file that contained these files:

libgcc_s_dw2-1.dll
libstdc+±6.dll
libwinpthread-1.dll
sprouts.exe (size: 18,484 kb)

(edit: I had found the above files here:

http://sproutcoin.github.io/downloads/sprouts1-2-2.zip )

I extracted these files to a directory I created for sprouts.
(The wallet’s data files end up at: C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Sprouts)

But the above exe file didn’t work, it crashed at some point, so I found the latest
sprouts wallet file here:

The name of that zipped file is: sprouts-win-qt.zip

The only contents of that file was: sprouts.exe (size: 23,469 kb)

I placed that exe in the directory I created above for sprouts, so now it contains these files:

libgcc_s_dw2-1.dll
libstdc+±6.dll
libwinpthread-1.dll
sprouts.exe (size: 23,469 kb)

This wallet exe now runs correctly, and synchs up rather fast.

For some reason the above “sprouts.exe 23,469 kb” caused errors if those dll files were not included in the same directory.
I don’t recall the exact errors, but it said something about missing dlls.

You may need to add and modify a config file:

Create a file: “sprouts.conf”

and place it in with the sprout’s wallet data: C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Sprouts

Then add this to the file:

save it, and restart the wallet.

… now it should connect, and start downloading the block data.
I don’t recall if I used a bootstrap file, maybe it didn’t need it?

The above was found at: https://www.coinexchange.io/network/peers/SPRTS

Current version of the wallet working for me is: v0.1.2.2-gd0cbc83

It seems to be a bad day for me…

I messed up by wanting to update my wallet version for no reason…

Now, wallet unable to find connections…

I even isntalled the version you shared here… with the new conf file addnodes…

SAME ISSUE… wallet still unable to connect…

Could you update with a real wallet version which is working, and a conf file as well.

Or tell me what I should do because I tried all the tips and tricks I know to get back a wallet
connecting… but nothing is working for me…

hope you will be able to provide some guidance

UPDATE: it could be solved… finally, with the new .exe, it is starting to sync

Thanks for your post… at least, it is helping… even if the wallet version is the old one that I should never have removed…

#5

Well done.

Usually a failure to make connections means the wallet cannot find any peers, and that can mean that the configuration file is not setup correctly. But if yours is connecting then your config file is working like it should.

If you go into the “About” section of the wallet it should read this version:
v0.1.2.2-gd0cbc83 (this is the latest)

hi, please i seriously need a help. i have tried all i could to get my wallet sync, till now its not syncing. what do i do? i created a text document file and paste the sprout conf. file in the c drive/user/username/appdata/roaming/sprout/ and nothing seems to happen. please need your assistance

#9

I wanna give simple soon config. Tomorrow maybe so people not confused by roaming…
:joy:

That what I did to make this work at last.
1 - Have you used this tip? (If you have any wallets better to make a back up before this action) https://sprouts.community/t/sprouts-blockchain-snapshot/119?u=fierze
2 - Also I had a stupidest mistake: my config file had .config instead of .conf
3 - Check whether your folder named correct “C:/user/username/appdata/roaming/sprout/” or sprouts. Make sure about “s” in the end of /sprouts
4 - Here you can find latests nodes: https://chainz.cryptoid.info/sprts/#!network
use list for /Satoshi:0.6.3/Sprouts:0.4.2.2/Sprouts:0.1.2.2(v0.1.2.2-gd0cbc83)/ then copy+past to your .conf file in the /roaming/sprouts folder
5 - sprouts.exe should have size: 23,469 kb (read here to more info https://sprouts.community/t/one-example-of-getting-wallet-to-sync-as-of-sept-2017/129?u=fierze )
Restart Sprouts.exe
Sync took me about a night, ~12 hours I guess. During the sync money can’t be received till the end of the sync proccess(you will see green line at the bottom), but they will be delivered when the sync is done.

#11

thanks will check it out.

#12

worked for me ! finally

#13

@Fierze can you kindly confirm in respect to “3 - Check whether your folder named correct “C:/user/username/appdata/roaming/sprout/” or sprouts. Make sure about “s” in the end of /sprouts” does it have to be Sprout? or Sprouts?

#14

It has the “s” in the directory. So it is “Sprouts”, like so:

C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Sprouts

#15

Thanks a lot for all the info. My wallet was not used at all since all my sprouts is still in coinexchange. I deleted everything and downloaded all the files again. the only thing i am unsure about is how to correctly create the config. file. Arcmetal is there any change you can help me with a copy of that document so I can drop it in the folder and hopefully get this wallet working? I would really really appreciate it

#16

image This is my folder. I think I have everything and I copied the conf data from https://chainz.cryptoid.info/sprts/#!network used the first option which matched the name of the wallet version. I really dont know what I am doing wrong each time I open the wallet I get this : image zero connections :frowning:

#17

That looks very close to being correct, except that I am not sure what sort of effects are being caused by having the sprouts.exe and dlls in the same directory as the wallet directory. Usually the files “sprouts.exe” and the dlls are placed in their own directory, and then running the “sprouts.exe” will then create the wallet directory:

C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Sprouts

If you still can’t get it to connect, there are more drastic measures, but for those you’ll need to send me a private message and we can continue there.

#18

Arcmetal I did have the folder containing only the sprouts exe and dlls plus the config file but when I click on sprouts exe it creates all those additional folders as seen in that printscreen. I tried to move them in a different folder but when ever I click on sprouts exe they get created again in the same file.

#19

hey there i got the same issue like aricyk i had everthing done like him. and still no conccections

pls help

#20

@hugoboss07
Have you added all files, like:
sprouts.conf with the correct nodes?

#21

@Gonnabetya

#22

Sad to hear that it did not work for you. @hugoboss07 I will just in case send you the conf file. Talk further in PM.
